Paloma Rivera Exotic Coffee

Where a woman left her name in the mountains

152 years ago, among the coffee mountains of Colombia, a woman named Paloma walked these lands.

She was a farmer. She was a hard worker. She was a woman of the land who knew the language of the mountain, the rhythm of the rain, the smell of the soil and the exact moment a coffee cherry was ready to be picked. She did not know that her name would one day travel far beyond those mountains.

But she left something that has traveled to this day:

A way of understanding coffee.

Hacienda Paloma

A legacy born among mountains

Our story begins at Hacienda Paloma, in Belalcázar, Caldas, in a territory that naturally connects Caldas and Risaralda and is part of the identity of the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia.

Between the La Alemania and Los Micos villages, 1,800 meters above sea level, the mountains, the mist and the privileged conditions of our land set the stage where every cup of Paloma Rivera coffee begins.

Here we learned that coffee is not made with processes alone.

It is made with time, knowledge, perseverance and respect for its origin.

It is a heritage we received from those who farmed before us, and that we now transform to share with the world.

Our essence

The women who know coffee

Sweet, smooth and full of character.

Sweet like Colombian farming women, smooth like coffee women, and with the character of the chapoleras of the region.

That is Paloma Rivera.

Our coffee is grown among the mountains of Caldas and Risaralda, and it comes from a coffee culture where women’s hands have played an essential role in caring for and selecting the fruit.

Before there is a cup, there is a woman who knows how to choose. In the mountains of Colombia, excellence can begin with a seemingly simple gesture: choosing a cherry. But they know it is not just any cherry.

It must be red.

It must be ripe.

It must be ready.

That knowledge lives in their eyes. In their hands. In years of experience. In the memory of those who learned by watching the land and listening to those who came before.

Our chapoleras know that moment. They know when to wait. They know when to pick. And they know that every cherry can make a difference in the cup that will one day reach a table on the other side of the world.

That is why, at Paloma Rivera, we do not see our women simply as pickers.

We see them as guardians of our heritage.

Because an extraordinary coffee begins in the hands that know how to recognize it.

Chapolera women

A woman’s hands. Expert eyes. Colombian character.

Paloma Rivera is also the heritage and essence of the work of a restless, go-getter woman who rises early every day and finds in her work a way to care for her family, build a future and transform her land with joy, composure and determination.

That woman is deeply represented in our chapoleras.

Generation after generation, rural women have been an essential part of Colombian coffee culture. Their knowledge of the land, their sensitivity and their experience let them read the timing of the harvest and understand that excellence can begin with something as seemingly simple as choosing a cherry.

But not just any cherry.

The red one. The ripe one. The one that is ready.

That careful selection helps preserve the quality potential of the bean and stands for the attention to detail we want to carry all the way to the cup.

So when we speak about our chapoleras, we do not want to turn them into just a traditional image of Colombian coffee. We want to recognize their knowledge, honor their work and make their contribution to quality visible.

Through our activity and our value chain, we help support more than 1,000 coffee families, with special attention to the women tied to the land and to our coffee culture.

They represent something no technology can fully replace: the experience of hands that know the land.

They are knowledge.

They are character.

They are origin.

They are part of the soul of Paloma Rivera.

Sustainability

People & Nature

Our land taught us something essential: we cannot talk about an extraordinary coffee without first talking about the people and the nature that make it possible.

That is why, at Paloma Rivera, sustainability was born as a way of understanding the land.

For the third year in a row, our coffee and plantain production holds Rainforest Alliance certification, supporting our commitment to responsible farming practices and to a vision in which people and nature can thrive together.

People & Nature sums up a philosophy we feel is deeply our own.

We care for the natural resources around our crops, promote conservation and reforestation, work on the responsible use of water and keep looking for ways to reduce the impact of our processes and packaging.

But for Paloma Rivera, sustainability also means human dignity. It means valuing those who work the land, promoting fairer relationships and especially recognizing the role of the women in our coffee chain.

We believe that caring for nature and respecting people are inseparable parts of the same responsibility.

Caring for the origin is caring for the land.

And caring for the land is also caring for those who live from it.

From heritage to innovation

Heritage and innovation

We received a heritage. We choose to take it further.

Colombia taught us to respect coffee. It taught us the value of origin, the importance of the harvest and the patience of the process. It taught us that every territory can express something different.

But we also learned that a heritage does not have to stand still.

It can evolve.

And that is what we do at Paloma Rivera. We start from different Colombian varietals and high-altitude coffees —from an extraordinary Red Geisha to Bourbons, Castillo, Caturra and other expressions of our land— to explore everything coffee can become.

Then the innovation begins.

This is how a coffee collection is born, where our Colombian coffee heritage meets an imagination without borders.

Our commitment

Colombia in a cup. Colombia before the world.

Our commitment begins in Belalcázar, but it does not end there.

We work to build a value chain in which producers, coffee women, communities, nature, quality and innovation can grow around a single purpose.

We want to add value from the origin.

We want Colombian coffee to travel the world not only as an extraordinary raw material, but as a finished product able to tell who we are, where we come from and everything Colombia can create.

Every Paloma Rivera carries a story of family, mountains, work, knowledge and transformation. A deeply Colombian story that is now finding new consumers, cultures and palates around the world.

And when they discover it, we want them to recognize a different Colombia as well:

Sophisticated, biodiverse, feminine, innovative, exotic and proud of its roots.
