  • Coarse ground specialty coffee from Paloma Rivera (approximately 30 grams for every 500 ml of water)
  • Hot water (just below boiling point)
  • French press (plunger coffee maker)
  • Measuring spoon
  • Timer or stopwatch

Step 2: Heating and Preparation

  • Heat the water: Boil fresh water and let it sit for a few seconds to cool slightly, ideally between 90-96°C (195-205°F).
  • Grind the coffee: Grind the Pereira coffee beans just before brewing, using a grinder set to a coarse grind. A coarse grind is crucial to prevent the coffee from becoming bitter during extraction.

Step 3: Preparing the Coffee

  • Preheat the French press: Pour some hot water into the French press to preheat it. This helps maintain the temperature during brewing and prevents the coffee from cooling too quickly.

  • Steeping time: Place the lid with the French press plunger over the coffee and let it steep for 4 minutes. This allows the coffee flavors to extract optimally.
  • Pressing: After 4 minutes, slowly press the plunger down. The metal filter will separate the grounds from the coffee, pushing them to the bottom of the French press.

Step 5: Serving and Enjoying

  • Serve the coffee: Pour the brewed coffee into a cup or carafe, avoiding pouring out the grounds left at the bottom of the French press.
